NBA Comparison: Moochie Norris
(01-02 version)
Strengths:
A herky-jerky, quick PG whose mental toughness is unparalleled and who hones an effective transition game...Prefers style
over substance, going for the flashy pass or layup while on the run...Possesses a whole bag of tricks that the AND-1 PGs possess,
such as behind-the-backs, bounce passes and lobs...Keeps a low center of gravity, maintaining his position and balance low
and avoids on-the-ball turnovers very well...Breaks defenders off the dribble at ease, and his speed and lightning quick first
step allow him to penetrate to the basket easily, although it is much better at transition game...Likes to take responsibility,
for better or for worse...Has NBA-three point range (but see weaknesses)...Clutch...Has vastly improved his defense, showing
a better mentality and using good lateral movement to get onto the grill onto his opponents, although this is relatively inconsistent...Hard worker
who looks to improve his offensive game and creativity, although that has been rewarded with mixed results...Very talented...
Weaknesses:
Always seems to put himself into a precarious position, which always results in him taking high shots of difficulty or making
ill-advised passes resulting into turnovers...Too often he takes closely defended shots, he seems to have a big ego which
may not be called for in the next level...Excessive dribbler. A ball-dominant player who has had some problems with his teammates
because he holds the ball in roughly 75% of the team's possessions, running down the shot-clock and playing a herky-jerky
style of disorganized offense...Does not improvise well...To boot, not a good shooter. A volume shooter who is extremely streaky...Tries
to do too much at times, getting out of control...A fairly bad decision maker, takes ill-advised shots when the pass is there
and makes high passes of difficulty for the sake of SportsCenter...Extremely turnover prone, needs to cut down on turnovers...Possesses
a very diminutive frame for a PG, will become a defensive liability in the next level and may find it hard to get his shot
off in the next level...Mostly looks to attack the basket, for better or worse, and has shown a relative tendency to miss
layups...Doesn't play well at half-court sets, Jevin Morris organizes the offense there...A player in which "looks can be
deceiving." Looks like a tricky and deceptive player at first glance with his advanced and flashy moves, but rarely are
those for the betterment of the team. His moves are neither effective nor efficient at padding his stats, once he makes a
good move it normally results in a boneheaded play...Lacks game recognition, has not been able to utilize his raw skill and
talent and play the basketball he is capable of (although that might be due to his being overshadowed by Jevin Morris)...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Likes style over substance, and can do behind-the-back, between-the-legs, bounce passes effortlessly...Makes
plays appear out of nowhere...Good court vision, seems to know his teammates' location relative to his position at all times...Very
nice ballhandling skills, almost AND-1 like...Can break defenders off the dribble...Likes to take responsibility handling
the ball, and in effect he makes his teammates' games a lot easier...Likes to get into transition game and utilize his flashy
passes...Good but not great NBA-level speed...Decent at getting to the basket...Has some range on his jumpshot...Quite a clutch
player...Very young player for a junior, so he still has quite a bit of potential in him...Shows a willingness to improve,
his coach called him one of the "hardest workers" in the gym night-in and night-out...
Weaknesses: Has regressed a bit in his game, although with Jevin Morris stepping up,he hasn't
been able to get the looks he had in the past...Assist numbers have leveled and scoring numbers have dropped from past years,
although they are still good...Tries to do too much at times and finds himself out of control. Every play after rebounding
he immediately looks to get into transition game...Sometimes his passes get so complex that his teammate doesn't read it well
and results in a turnover...A bit turnover prone due to his tendency to get out of control...Seems to shy away from the half-court
set, since his impact there is much worse than in transition...Not a good passer or organizer of the offense, needs to be
ball-dominant to create plays...Horrible defender. Gets burned very often, despite having the speed to handle it...Shooting
ability leaves a lot to be desired; not a good shooter at all currently at 41%, and he rarely takes threes because he can't
make much of them (27%)...Not a reliable shooter at this point...Lacks physical tools/athleticism that other PGs have...Lacks
great size at only 5'11", making his defense even worse as he will become a post-up target in the NBA...Doesn't have much
weight at all, severely needs to add some muscle mass and go to the weight room...
Notes: Is the complete
opposite of his fellow backcourt playmaker Jevin Morris; whereas he likes to push the tempo to make flashy passes in transition,
Morris prefers to make plays in half-court sets. Both tend to play into each others' hands and that has given Notre Dame one
of the best guard tandems in the nation.
