Paulus Jeffny has a lot of talent which would could make him a potential star if he utilized it more in the NBA, but his powerhouse German team Vatish Vogue has instead carved him out into more of the consummate garbage-type playing big man role. For starters, Jeffny is deceptively athletic which he utilizes to corral rebounds without the need to box out. He outquicks bigger and slower opponents to get loose balls and can unleash some power dunks at times. At times he puts solid effort battling in the paing to get loose balls and giving his team the extra possession. Jeffny also possesses a solid touch out to 20-feet, and his shot is the 12-footer which he can drain from just about anywhere if left open. He doesn't have a real developed post game, but he does surprise his defenders by getting loose balls and finishing with layups and whatnot. Defensively he already has a lot of tricks which prove his ultimate heart for the team; he is willing to put a body on his man and take charges, and he always puts his arms up in the air to contest shots if he's not taking charges. He knows his role on the team and plays it well, helping his team gain a good record in the EuroLeague.

The biggest weakness of Paulus Jeffny is that his team has given him such a defined role in their system that he may have lost some of his better NBA-related abilities. For example, Jeffny's athleticism is underutilized in his team, as he rarely uses it in the offensive end and prefers battling in the paint and spotting up occasionally. His defensive tactics should also be better, as he should be a little less conservative and try to use his athleticism to block more shots (he only gets 0.8 blocks a game, and that should be much more). Jeffny clears out the glass well but rarely boxes out, preferring to use his athleticism more in this case. Jeffny rarely gets touches in his team so his stats could probably be better than what they indicate. Also, his ballhandling skills are weak right now, although that's not a huge concern of his given that he is a big man. Jeffny has also had injury problems earlier this season (missed the first 10 games) and has a reputation of horrible knees, which could scare off some scouts. Jeffny is also fairly old, at age 22 already, so his draft stock has yet to be determined.

Overall, Jeffny is a decent prospect for the NBA, but he can certainly be better if he maximized the most out of his abilities. He has a decent frame for the prototypical NBA PF, along with athleticism and decent touch.

Notes: Jeffny plays in a very good German team in Vatish Vogue alongside the younger and more athletic Vans Hollerein. Both are considered great prospects for the NBA and it would certainly be nice if both made the leap at the same draft.

Another comparison: Joe Smith (in his earlier years)
