NBA Comparison: Desmond Mason

Strengths: An up-and-coming young player who had only started receiving crucial and meaningful minutes at the end of year...A physical specimen, in the sense, like LeBron James, he is already very developed where he is...Extraordinary athlete, and combines that with excellent quickness despite his weight...Very good transition player, runs the floor extremely well and likes to be the recipient of many dunks...38' inch vertical, can posturize bigger players, do reverses quite easily as well as acrobatic layups/dunks...A future Slam Dunk contest participant....Has good hands, throws down many dunks off lobs...On half-court sets, possesses a very good first step to get to the basket, outquicks his opponents and uses his strength to draw many fouls...Gets to the line very often...Rapidly improving mid-range shot...

Weaknesses: NBA potential hurts right now because Mississippi State still doesn't give him that many minutes, their coach just sees him as an excitement/energy player that they need...Just doesn't contribute much in any other aspect of the game at this point, and possesses some sort of weakness even in his strengths...Despite his athleticism, doesn't possess good body control attacking the basket due to his weight, gets to the line simply due to strength and speed...When he gets to the line, a very inconsistent free throw shooter. 62% last season, but one night he can go 6-7 and the next he goes 2-6...Okay rebounder, but should be considerably better considering his athletic ability and quickness...Has never possessed much court vision, which makes it more harder for him to make the adjustment to the NBA SG position...Ballhandling skills can stand to improve as well...Has only started developing his mid-range game, showing good touch, but that can certainly improve; likes to go full-steam to the hoop right now, rarely does he shoot jumpers...Doesn't have three point range yet...Not a good defender as of yet. Lacks lateral footspeed to keep up with his man, probably a product of his weight...Gets lost off screens on man defense, and rarely rotates off-the-ball...Seems to play like a SF, but he really has a SG's body right now...Can potentially have some weight problems in the future, wouldn't want to lose his gifted speed if that keeps increasing, although he is excellently built right now...
