NBA Comparison: Ramon Sessions
Strengths: Extremely good passer. For a young player, has many point guard qualities at an above
average to an elite level, including his floor leadership skills, playmaking ability, court vision, primacy and the willingness
to diversify his passes making his passing game less predictable....For a young PG, very good at making post entry passes,
rare among many point guards nowadays...Patient. Doesn't always play for the assist (although due to his instinctual talents
he gets quite a bit at his level) and preaches ball movement making coaches happy, however he also knows when to capitalize
on unbalanced defenses, recognizing opportunities and defensive seams well...Takes his passing to another level in transition.
Dangerous with cutters all around him and utilizes all options, seeing what develops around him...Racks up assists rapidly
and has broken several assist categories already at the youth leagues, when he has the offense clicking...Extremely unselfish.
Not a shoot first player, and very humble...Solid ballhandler. Unforced turnovers are not really a problem for him, and is
always aware of the opposition's movements on the court....Possesses great height and a solid body for the point guard position
in the NBA...Good quickness, very light on his feet and while it won't stand out on the NBA level, it won't be a liability
either...Can be a very solid man-to-man defender when athleticism and strength are not issues. Solid lateral quickness and
exerts more energy on defense than other players his age....Developing his range, and is a respectable mid range shooter as
of now with mild triple threat skills when he is 15' and in, with solid slashing ability and body control at his level....
Weaknesses: Possesses obvious offensive passivity on the court. Relinquishes shots to a fault many
a time, and is susceptible to overpassing leading to potential shot clock violations or his teammates taking forced shots
at times (although his ability to give his teammates good shots more than overshadows that)....Questionable international
three point range, possessing a line drive type shot with little elevation, leading to more bricked shots than most perimeter
players would yield...Doesn't possess much range past 20 feet at this stage. Defenders back him off at times and those who
play good team defense overall usually hold down his assists, which is equivalent to "holding" him down; when that happens
his team often loses, not surprisingly...In the NBA level against more athletic players with fundamental coaches he holds
the potential to get more than a share of nights with few assists, unless he improves his creativity with the ball and/or
makes his shot/range more respectable. Thus may be a streaky passer at the next level...Athletic/physical abilities beyond
height leave something to be desired. Not a stiff, but not the prototypical athletic NBA guard either, and lacks great creativity
with the ball despite his assortment of point guard skills. Somewhat of an old school guard...Struggles to take players off
the dribble, but to his credit uses his basketball IQ, savvy, teammates' screens, etc well to rack up the assists...Has had
several injuries regarding a hyperextended knee in the past, although those seem to have gone away...Quite old for his class.
Started the youth leagues at 1.5 years old than most of his peers, so skeptics may say despite his talents he is more mature
and thus can impose his will against younger players...Questions about how his game can translate to the next level with his
lack of physical tools combined with his lack of shooting touch, linger--makes scouts wonder whether his elite level passing
skills will work in the NBA...A beauty in the eye of the beholder type prospect...
