NBA Comparison: Anderson Varejao
Strengths: Possesses an intriguing game for a big man. Scouts love big men who have tireless, constant
motors...However, his motor comes so effortlessly, a complete natural in this area in playing this style of game. Never seems
to get winded or have any endurance problems...Capable of getting several leaps in succession, not only prevalent in his defense
but in his rebounding. That combined with his height and strength help to give him an edge in both these categories...Has
a fierce knack for rebounding, especially on the offensive glass. Makes the most out of those opportunities for easy baskets
around the paint..Very good athleticism for a big man, primarily due to his motor, but can dunk in traffic when the situation
arises...Solid frame for a big man, still growing into it...Tenacious defender. Not only possesses the lateral quickness to
guard most wing players, but also possesses the length, athleticism and motor to play most big men strong. Never backs down...Has
the reaction and reflexes to get in the passing lanes and the length to get the blocks and altered shots. Can be a very good
defensive player in that he plays many styles of defensive games well even at this stage, the potential is there...One of
those few players who actually uses his physical tools to the fullest and for the benefit of the team...Can get his fair share
of points due to outhustling and outworking most other players, not a huge cause of concern at this stage...Plays with great
infectiousness which spreads to his teammates. Well-liked...Shows a great desire to improve and learn...
Weaknesses: Offensive game is in dire need of work, but college is there for him to advance this
aspect of his game. Refuses to shoot from the perimeter at the high school level, and this part of his game will be tested...Lives
off scraps offensively and may be capable of getting his dues here in the NBA level, but needs to diversify his scoring and
make more of an impact offensively...Shows touch at times, but other times it looks like he releases the ball improperly from
his hand leading to surprising misses. Even layups are not fair game for him, but to his credit he does get a lot of dunks...Solid
defensive rebounder, but can definitely improve in this area as he shows more of a knack for offensive rebounds...Body can
fill out, but can get pushed around by stronger defenders in the paint...As aggressive as he is for some reason he doesn't
fare especially well playing against other hustling-type players...Tends to be very foul prone at times. Picks up many aggressive
fouls whether by biting on pump fakes or simply being eager to make a defensive statement...Quite a raw player at this stage
especially offensively...Can afford to put on more weight but not a huge concern...Currently possesses a minor "tweener" like
body, with the body of a power forward but the raw skills of a center. However, as he develops his game and grows into his
body, this should be less of a concern...
