NBA Comparison: Matt Barnes
Strengths: A hustling scrapper who has shown rapid improvement in his offensive game during his senior
year of high school...Feisty competitor...Works hard and gets to all the loose balls due to his diligence and toughness...Reacts
well to loose balls, gets many rebounds and steals at the college level with his anticipation...Fights amongst bigger players
to get rebounds, sacrifices his body and gets down a lot but never complains...Clearly the star of his high school team but
it is good to see such a great work ethic and willingness to do the little things in a high school player...Very solid shooter,
good three point shooter at the college level (44%)...Spots up at the most opportune times, finds ways to get open...Possesses
legitimate NBA three point range in his jumpshot, reacts well and always aware of passes thrown to him offensively...Strong
built body ready to play in the NBA, ripping with muscles as well as strong calves...Above average athlete, usually finishes
strong off offensive rebounds...A very good prevent defender who sticks with his man off-the-ball and knows how to limit the
shot opportunities for his man...Tough defensive player who is aware of both of his man and the ball at the same time, never
takes off a defensive possession...Has all the tools and skills to make a very nice player at the next level...
Weaknesses: Lacks great ballhandling skills. He has obviously tried to build his game around hustling,
and now shooting, to get around his deficiencies, but those parts of his game are sorely lacking...Never seems to have a clean
slash to the basket at half-court sets, defense often throws him off...Gets a lot of charges on the offensive end due to his
inability to control his body and utilize body control or momentum, not entirely flexible...Has solid footspeed but there
are concerns about his speed in the next level especially in terms of perimeter defense...Below average free throw shooter
(61%), which shows that he is still getting used to hiw newfound stroke...Jumpshot can still show its ugly side at times,
missing badly although it has improved extremely well; can be streaky as well, not entirely reliable just yet...Has a mid-range
game but it is rather inconsistent...Tends to look more for offensive rebounds than defensive ones...Can get into foul trouble
at times...Not much of a tweener anymore, but he was a converted PF in the past but has worked very hard to dispel that notion
with his improved jumpshot...Doesn't have much court vision, can be turnover prone when forced to pass the ball...
Notes: Helped Duclaine reach the CIF State Championship for Lousiana at his senior year. Posted up
a career high 43 points in the finals game, intriguing many NBA scouts in the process.
