NBA Comparison: Charlie Ward
Strengths: Possesses an assortment of NBA attributes that scouts look for in a point guard...Very
good frame at 6'2" 190 lbs., has the strength and height to stand his ground against stronger PGs and the quickness
to match up against NBA-level PGs...Played some linebacker in high school for his football team, so his quickness has always
been there...Good man-to-man and rotation defender, loves to organize his team into good defensive sets/rotations and helps
the team defensively as a whole...Very good defensive player. His tough build, quickness and never-give-up mentality help
him in this area...Plays with heart, a fan favorite for Idaho State... Solid athlete, but possesses better quickness...A good
floor general offensively. Knows how to create openings for his teammates by drawing the defense. Finds the open man...Racks
up assists at a solid pace, never loses focus in his floor general skills...Very mature player, plays like a veteran out there
on the court. Doesn't get too many turnovers...Offensively, loves the three point shot. Capable of hitting many of them in
a row and going for great three point shooting nights...Very good shooting stroke...Knows how to balance between passing the
ball and taking the shot, never seems excessive in either area...Good free throw shooter...Moves well off-the-ball on both
ends of the court, knows his assignments...
Weaknesses: In terms of actual game, he probably amounts to a solid role player at the next level...A
solid athlete, but doesn't have a super quick first step, a good vertical or great attack the basket ability...Offensive repertoire
looks a bit one-dimensional and predictable at times because he continually takes three point shots...Sometimes falls in love
with the jumpshot and stops diversifying his offense when he clearly has the ability to attack the basket...Can be a very
streaky jumpshooter from time to time, not always a very good jumpshooter hindering his percentages somewhat...A good passer
and floor general, but doesn't have proficient passing ability or court vision characteristic of many star PGs...Biggest concern
is his durability and recurring injury problems. Missed most of his freshman year and half of his sophomore year with reconstructive
knee surgeries, only to bounce back in his junior and senior years. There is a fear that with the 82-game NBA schedule, he
may be reduced to limited minutes or be more injury prone because of that...
Another NBA Comparison, especially with his injuries? Frank Williams.
