NBA Comparison: Derek Anderson
Strengths: Very explosive guard who loves to push the ball, prefers the up-tempo style of game...Possesses
supreme quickness especially for the shooting guard, equivalent to that of many small point guards...Goes from left to right
at the blink of an eye...Very good ballhandling ability, which he naturally uses to slash to the basket with some degree of
consistency...Excellent at the drive-and-dish. Most of his slashes result in dishing, and he draws a lot of non-shooting fouls
due to the way he plays...Herky-jerky passer who can find the open man off the dribble...Knows how to attract defenses consistently...The
natural leader and scorer of Texas Tech as a senior, has a nose for scoring and getting his shot off...A three point gunner
who is capable of getting hot from distance, especially dangerous when he's feeling it...Excellent at creating opportunities
for himself...Can make an impact in other areas (rebounding and passing) even when he's cold from the field, that distinguishes
him from other undersized SGs...Not too turnover prone which is quite miraculous considering he has the ball in his hands
most of the time...Very good athlete, capable of highlight reels and rebounding explosions...
Weaknesses: A very ball-dominant player who doesn't move particularly well off-the-ball, capable
of silent lapses on both ends of the court where he doesn't make much of an impact without the ball in his hands, although
his team gave him no other option...Extremely streaky gunner. More of a rhythm shooter than a spot-up shooter, likes to create
off the dribble rather than have others create for him, which could be a problem in the league. Uses many different release
points which could be both a blessing and a curse...A gunner who may not help his team especially when he's cold from the
field. A streaky shooter prone to having horrendous shooting nights (3-16 from the field against Virginia Tech)...Not too
adept at getting to the free throw line...Defense needs work. Has the tools and quickness, but not the mentality, although
he tends to conserve energy for his offense...Approach to the game is not parallel to that of the NBA's. A ball-dominant shooter,
and he's not even a great shooter; needs to change his approach and be more of a team player...Takes way too many three pointers.
Should stand to slash more to the basket, and that is what lowers his shooting percentages (37%), which simply won't cut it
in the NBA and can be considered his biggest weakness. 75% of his shots are from three point territory...Can be foul prone
from time to time...Not a natural point guard due to his shooting guard mentality, but the latent skills are there if he adjusts
to that mentality during the course of the game...
