NBA Comparison: Taller, bulkier Chris Paul

Strengths: Possesses supreme basketball intelligence combined with his extreme killer instinct, was simply born to play the game...Refuses to lose and knows when to take control of the game when need be, rarely do NBA players have what Jives has in terms of heart and talent...Extremely explosive offensive player, dictates the offensive side of the court as a great scoring and passing threat....Bulldozes his way into the lane with his extreme first step, heart and athleticism, and capable of finishing strong whether with highlight-reel like dunks or layups after taking contact...Very smart player who knows how to adjust his shot in mid-air and even hit them...Basically an automatic shooter from mid-range, excels in the jumpstop-type mid-range shots and can hit mid-range shots off the dribble...Puts himself in triple threat positions very well and rarely makes a bad decision, always using the passing option when it is there or creating it for himself when he wants to get his teammates involved...A naturally unselfish pass-first player who only looks to score when he needs to or when his team needs him to, capable of drawing defenses and passing to open players...Marvelous ballhandling skills, never loses control of the ball when he's making a move, key to him making his many plays...Gets everyone involved, keeps them satisfied, and is a natural born leader...Great shooting mechanics...Capable of acting as passer or finisher in the open court, extreme top speed...Very gritty and tough on the defensive end, has great lateral quickness and the heart/desire to hold his man down, even in rotations where he is usually smaller than his other matchups...Great anticipation skills and quick hands leads to him to pick up a couple of steals each game...Very good rebounder, speed definitely gives him an edge in this area, may drop some triple doubles occasionally...Great size for the PG position, and his bulk allows him to post up smaller and weaker PGs to shoot over them...Seems to have an aura of "winning and persistence" when he is in the game...Never lets the tide turn, always seems to come through at the right time being very clutch...Makes risk plays but never seems to get out of control or make bad decisions in the process, comes effortlessly and instinctual to him to be in attack mode...Can turn on the jets whenever he wants to, and never seems to individually be put into a hapless position, always seems composed...Leaves his mark everywhere in the game....

Weaknesses: His range can use some work, but only a mild complaint because his game is so well-rounded and extremely polished/developed that he doesn't need to resort to it...College three point range lacks consistency (30%), so NBA three point range at this stage may be worse...Can individually have very potent scoring games, but his mindset throughout the game doesn't usually allow him that because he wants to get everyone involved, so probably won't be a super scorer at the next level...Below average free throw shooter at this stage (70%), but certainly improvable with his ability to hit off-balance type jumpshots, and considering how much he gets to the line...Can be so herky-jerky, erratic and unpredictable to the point that his teammates aren't anticipating his passes, but not a major weakness...Can get down on himself a bit when his team loses, but more of a reflection of his heart and desire above anything else...

Notes: Consensus #1 pick for the 2007 draft, has said that he wants to stay in Arkansas for another year because he wants to help them win a championship...#1 pick is really his to lose...Arkansas Mr. Basketball in 2005, has many accolades and was a consensus McDonald's All-American who chose to play close to home.
