NBA Comparison: Antonio McDyess (now)
Strengths: A finesse/semi-athletic forward with good mobility and solid offensive skills...Has practiced
his mid-range jumpshot all season and it is extremely effective in real game situations...Likes to spot up for the mid-range
jumpshot from the corner...When posting up, exhibits a good fadeaway jumpshot off from 10-15 feet...Has a solid vertical,
but athleticism is more prevalent in his solid quickness and lateral mobility...Very solid defensively with mobility, combining
strength/mobility/solid athleticism to be efficient in rotations off-the-ball...Holds his ground in the post decently in one-on-one
situations...Very smart and fundamentally sound offensive player, plays somewhat to his limitations but can make cuts and
score on layups/dunks around the basket area...In rebounding, efficient on both ends of the court but thrives off missed shots
when he can use his fairly long arms and athleticism to snatch rebounds...Boxes out defensively...Very good at drawing non-shooting
fouls through the cuts that he makes, forcing defenses to react...Intangibles player who shows a level desire to win...Nice
comeback after his injuries...Could have entered the NBA out of high school as a 1st round pick, showing the hype and the
vast amount of potential he had back then...
Weaknesses: Injuries. Missed all of his freshman season with a horrific leg injury, in effect making
him lose his spring, superb quickness and great athletic ability; however still shows desire and solid aggressiveness...Had
to redshirt his freshman year and only put up mediocre stats the next year, but to his credit he has made a solid impact this
year (his sophomore year)...No longer the imposing and intimidating athlete he was both offensively and defensively...Tends
to play like a role player now, using a mix of smarts, fundamentals, and athleticism to get things done...Doesn't rely on
his post game as much, more "finesse" with his jumper...No longer an intimidator defensively, playing more of the "smart"
defense and not accumulating steals or blocked shots...A below average passer out of double teams...Doesn't get to the line
that often, most likely due to his injuries, and is only a 57% FT shooter...Solid ballhandling skills but may need some work
in the NBA, rarely dribbles towards the basket, only spots up and posts up on offense most of the time...Good strength but
only average height 6-9 for the NBA, anything below that (especially with his injury problems/loss of great athleticism) would
probably be problematic...
Notes: Averaged 23.5 pts, 13.8 rbs, 2.1 steals and 5.8 blocks per game in college. Lauded as one
of the nation's top big men coming into his freshman year at Tennessee. Chose Tennessee over powerhouses such as Duke,
Wake Forest and UNC because "I'm a humble guy, with humble beginnings. I'll make a name for myself here and help this program
rise to the top."
