NBA Comparison: Scot Pollard
Strengths: A hard-working, hustling-type big man who is usually a step quicker than opposing centers...Master
of getting the loose ball. Uses his instincts and quickness to nab loose balls after missed shots...Superb rebounder, uses
fundamental boxouts as well as deceptive quickness to chase after loose balls...Instinctual defender as well. Good at drawing
charges but also has the requisite bulk to hold his ground against most NBA centers, playing solid standstill defense...Good
reflexes and solid aggressiveness help in both the rebounding and the stealing department, where he anticipates low post dribbles
well to poke the ball away...Solid running the floor, can finish in transition at times...Gets some garbage buckets at times
off his solid offensive rebounding...Fairly athletic, plays with fiery passion...NBA body...Always a fun-loving guy, good
to have in the locker room...
Weaknesses: Lacks offensive talent. Has no range right now and is simply a garbage scorer for Purdue,
although that has more to do with the fact that Purdue has two gunner guards and his job is simply to clear the rebounds and
play solid defense...Poor scorer given the minutes he plays...Aggressiveness often leads him into foul trouble early on and
often plays sporadic minutes over the course of the game rather than "clumped" minutes...Not an intimidating defender, uses
lateral mobility and hard work over qualities such as athleticism and toughness...Not a real great rotation defender, camps
out in the paint a lot...Lacks real offensive polish which would most likely hinder his chances of success in the next level...Lacks
great exposure and a place where he can showcase his talents, although scouts are aware of his situation and like his physical
attributes...
Notes: Hails from Bienvenides, Brazil, and got an athletic scholarship from Purdue looking to improve
his game in the states. Declared for the draft last year to test the waters but scouts recommended that he needed more polish.
Hasn't improved much in that aspect since then.
Another comparison? Taller Ronny Turiaf.
