NBA Comparison: JR Smith
Strengths: Possesses an intriguing combination of shooting ability and athleticism...Makes the game
look too easy at times whether hitting threes off a couple of dribbles, attacking the basket at ease and finishing over defenders,
showing solid crossover and ballhandling skills, etc...Very athletic player, 38" inch vertical with long hangtime, has done
many impressive dunks in the past...Capable of going for scoring explosions whether or not he's guarded, gets hot from three
point range showing nice elevation, good mechanics and good stroke, with the added threat of getting to the basket...Decent
ballhandler who can avoid turnovers well when dribbling into traffic...NBA body and frame, already suited to play in the NBA
especially considering he's a 1988 prospect...Had a growth spurt of 2 inches and put in 22 lbs. last year...Has a lot
of "clay" to mold, what with his physical tools and his natural skill set, and has good potential...
Weaknesses: Questions remain about his basketball IQ and intangibles...A very gifted player but seems
to believe everything has been given to him, doesn't work extremely hard and shows a rather lax work ethic...May look sluggish
on the court, not run back on defense, or not even play any defense whatsoever...On offense, that translates to drifting around
the court, not doing much to make his defender work...Sometimes looks like he's an NBA player, and the next minute doesn't
because his mentality is always on-and-off, doesn't bring a full-force attack unless he's motivated by some means...Three
point shot may be streaky at times, because he takes so many despite his good stroke...Cannot distinguish between a bad and
good shot, a bit of a selfish player and shooting percentages are a reflection of that...Lacks a good mid-range game, which
would give him a better offensive arsenal...Doesn't get to the line as much as one would think, more smooth than he is aggressive...Hasn't
played within the context of the offense much, given the green light to do whatever he does...Doesn't fill up the stat sheet
well, fairly pathetic rebounder especially for his size due in part to laziness...Selfishness often hinders him from passing
the ball, very untested in this area...Porous defense, gives up too easily and sometimes does not even defend, despite all
of his talent...Questions whether he will reach his full potential with his lax work ethic/personality...Doesn't look to improve
much, has had some run-ins with his peers and coaches which makes scouts wonder whether he is uncoachable...Attitude needs
adjustment, has some baggage...
