NBA Comparison: Maurice Williams
Strengths: A Jekyll-and-Hyde type point guard who shows flashes of great potential when he is playing
heady and focused...Has the capacity to provide every single aspect and need of a superior starting NBA point guard...Possesses
great court vision. Has smooth ballhandling ability and is quick with the ball in his hands, being able to create off the
dribble for his teammates...Excels in transition passing where he can pass to the open man or lob, making spectacular passes...Very
quick player in the open court. Hard to guard once he is moving at top speed...Possesses decent shooting ability as well.
Capable of hitting shots with a man in his face, creating off the dribble, hitting spot-up shots, etc., when focused...Has
some deceptiveness and craft in utilizing speed to attack the basket, overall has many offensive weapons he can go to, be
it the mid-range shot, the three pointer, or the shot around the rim...Possesses a decent frame for the NBA point guard position,
has good weight and won't be pushed around defensively...Has shown flashes of strong defense at times, using his good lateral
quickness to stay with his man and using his anticipation skills to pick up loose balls and gather steals...When he plays
within the team system, with a focused, unselfish attitude, he really gives his team a lift...
Weaknesses: Tends to have ups-and-downs in the same game way too often, and sometimes he does not
even show up...Has a tendency to take shots out of the context of the offense at times, not showing particularly good decision-making
skills...Doesn't have great floor leadership skills which somewhat offsets his potentially good half-court passing ability...When
he's made up his mind, he normally flows with it, it is hard for him to change and improvise to new situations, be it switching
from passing to shooting or vice versa...A decent but not a super jumpshooter, has a tendency to take shots of high difficulty
(mostly with defenders in his face) which lowers his percentages...Average three point shooter...Lacks great lift on his jumpshot...Very
inconsistent. His team underachieved the last two seasons with him as the starting PG...Very average athlete. Much more quick
than he is athletic, and that could cause problems with his offensive game against more athletic defenders...Defense overall
is a bit subpar mostly because he gives up too easily in making rotations and does not always play strong one-on-one D...Has
a good PG body and the necessary PG characteristics to succeed in the NBA, but simply does not possess the right mentality
the majority of the time...
