NBA Comparison: Fred Jones

Strengths: An athletic guard who has polished up his offensive game the last few years...Has developed into a reliable shooter now, whether from mid-range or three point range...Likes to use the pump-fake from three point land, get his defender off balance, step into the mid-range shot and hit it...Good mechanics on his shot, has shown some capacity to handle the ball individually and shoot off the dribble if need be...Capable of exploding for great scoring nights when hot, mostly from jumpshots...Capable of getting to the basket with his athleticism...Won't miss from the stripe (84%)...Very reliable player who can contribute and step up defensively, playing aggressive defense at times but mostly playing cautious defense, makes all the right moves to contest shots showing good lateral quickness...Unselfish player who can pass the ball within the context of the offense, play decent spot-up duty at PG for limited minutes due to unselfishness and decent ballhandling...Doesn't take risks, doesn't turn the ball over much...In terms of physical tools, possesses a thick set which allows him to post up smaller players or take advantage of them defensively, which makes him more intimidating when his athleticism is factored in..

Weaknesses: Biggest weakness is that he has regressed not offensively, but in terms of the way he plays...Was one of France's most promising young prospects in the past but after that surgery two years ago, he has grown more tentative in using his athleticism in making plays...Rarely attacks the basket. Has the capabilities to do so, but as he is polishing his game, he tends to shoot jumpshots now and that constitutes a large majority of his offensive game...May be a streaky jumpshooter at times, not overly reliable....Won't be a great scorer at the NBA, but a very solid and consistent one...Used to make highlight reels with his athleticism, not really anymore...On defense, not a lockdown defender, doesn't have a real killer instinct on this end and has a tendency to give his defender too much space at times, not playing consistent defense in one possession...Ballhandling skills are good for a SG, but not impressive for a PG...May be considered a tweener between PG and SG, lack of height for shooting guard, not enough playmaking/ballhandling skills for PG...Has not played PG much at France, hasn't shown great court vision, just decent court vision...Has flash, but really plays like a role player, always leaves the impression he can be better than what he is...May be a bit one-dimensional in terms of simply jumpshooting, and that combined with his tweener status may raise some doubts about his success in the NBA, although he still has scouts intrigued with his physical tools and overall potential...

Notes: Versailles Mont-du-Jour guard of the year in 2003. Won the France National Slam Dunk Contest in 2004. Has recently been bought by Amjour Laramie for the 2005 season onwards.
