NBA Comparison: Jason Williams
Strengths: A pure point guard who can bring fans up on their chair and satisfy all of his teammates
alike...The position of point guard seems to come too easy to him to the point that he naturally abuses his wonderful playmaking
abilities....Dribbles the ball like a string, always keeps his body under control in his dribble penetration and in his drives...Rarely
loses the handle on-the-ball, wards off defenders with his plethora of dribbling skills, left-to-right/right-to-left between
the legs, behind-the-backs, jab steps, etc...Instinctual dribbler. Dribbles appropriately at the right situations, handles
pressure defense well...His dribbling is key to making all his spectacular passer. When focused, can arguably be a top 5 NBA
passer; has the court vision, playmaking, ballhandling, primacy, all the nuances of the PG; sees plays before they develop
and fires passes before the defense reacts...Makes a lot of unsuspecting passes which result in highlight reels...Excels in
transition game, where he can put himself in a triple threat position of pulling up for the three pointer, hitting cutters
or players in back of him, or finishing for himself; hard to defend in transition with his unpredictability...In half-court,
a reliable player who can find the open man, seems to be an assist waiting to happen for 2 or 3 points almost every possession...Makes
everyone around him better...Shooting ability is solid when he's not forcing shots, good mechanics and solid stroke, can get
hot over the course of the game from three point range...Good free throw shooter (86%)...Not foul prone...
Weaknesses: Has a tendency to become too complacent with the ball in his hands...Often treats the
ball like a stunt toy, treating it with reckless abandon...For every impressive pass or play he makes he makes a boneheaded
turnover or does something out of the context of the offense...Tends to become erratic and out of control on purpose, making
unforced turnovers for the sake of the highlight play...His mentality needs to be changed. He feels that he can control the
court and do anything when he handles the ball, thus he is not entirely receptive to coaching...Big ego. Feels superior to
everyone else, can get the better of himself at times and make costly plays...Also, this season especially, he showed that
when he doesn't have the ball in his hands, he tends to coast more and his numbers ultimately suffer...When he was moved to
off-guard in place of Vick Sperrer at PG , his numbers dropped from (14.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 7.3 apg) to (7.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 4.0
apg), showing that he is a ball-dominant player...Doesn't make enough of an impact without the ball in his hands...Not an
entirely versatile player, cannot conform to new situations and struggles purely just being a spot-up shooter...Shooting ability
is solid when he does not force shots, but constantly fires at will from three point range, where he is a paltry 30% on a
large number of attempts...Takes a lot of contested shots and shots off the dribble which significantly lower his percentages...Needs
to develop a better mid-range game, and doesn't attack the basket as much as he should given his intimidation asset with his
passing...Not a particulary efficient player...Tends to disappear within stretches of the game...His athleticism was more
prevalent freshman year, but now struggles to contain stronger, more athletic guards off the dribble...Doesn't react well
to pick-and-rolls and players who put themselves in triple threat positions...Small hands and wingspan are a detriment, lacks
physical tools...May have trouble playing within the team offense...On the small side...Has displayed questionable attitude
in the past which might be somewhat of a red flag...
