NBA Comparison: Jamal Crawford

Strengths: A wonderful talent and a pure potential player based on the wonderful skill set he possesses, reminiscent of the prototypical all-around off guard in the NBA...Fills up the stat sheet, but does not take the "master-of-none" route: he has shown proficiency in his passing ability, particularly due to his court vision, ability to drive and kick, fire creative passes, and utilize his natural passing talents...Had been Ukraine's point guard for five years running and he has clear talent in that position when he takes the pass-first route...Offensive game has shown extremely great flashes. When he his hot, he can score with the best of them, hitting jumpshots from everywhere, firing at will off the dribble, rendering all sorts of defenses helpless, and being able to attack the basket with grace and ease...His offensive talent can clearly be NBA-level and the talent and creativity he shows when he gets it going makes it even hard for NBA defenses to stop...Possesses an all-around offensive game, with a great stroke, good follow-through and near-perfect mechanics...Possesses good concentration, rarely changing his mechanics, even off the dribble, but (see weaknesses)...Excels in transition game, likes to play the run-and-gun game where he can either finish or make a nice pass...Decent overall floorspeed...His game helps to masquerade some of the physical weaknesses he possesses...Talentwise, in the NBA level especially considering he is a 1988 prospect, and his potential is sky high...

Weaknesses: Everything out of him is really all flashes, hasn't shown much of anything resembling consistency although this will come in time as he matures...Struggles to put up good shooting percentages. His last two seasons were around 39-40%, although there are a number of factors that contribute to that...Really is a streaky shooter, a hot-and-cold type...Can be a player to miss open shots and hit some really tough-looking fallaway jumpshots...Tends to take shots of high difficulty thinking he can make that, his basketball IQ simply isn't that great right now and takes many shots out of the context of the offense...Seems to be a ball-dominant player, needs the ball to be effective...Has many off nights for every on-night he has....Tends to get his assists along the flow of his shots, doesn't show a consistent passing mentality, passes only for the assist and not really to help organize/run the offense...Can be extremely erratic and turnover prone at times, running into brick walls which doesn't help with his slight frame...Forces the issue excessively...Needs to polish up his talents and fine-tune his skills...May have trouble finishing around the basket due to lack of strength, although he may have trouble getting there at the NBA level due to his average athleticism (he is more quick than he is athletic)...Doesn't have great physical tools, doesn't look the type who can put on more weight which is a huge weakness (looks like he will max out at around 185-190 lbs with little muscle)...Porous defense with poor effort and lateral footspeed, considers offense more important, needs to change that mentality, gets burned excessively and gives up too many easy open shots...Has a star mentality which may not be tolerated immediately by the NBA...

Notes: Has had notable improvement, one of the biggest high-risers in all the EuroLeague, this year. His team Kienmorad has a 14-5 record under his built, a definite improvement from the 9-10 and 5-14 they went the last two seasons. Coach Leonid Mutan said about him, "His talent is undeniable. He will be a [heck] of a player someday."
