NBA Comparison: Greg Buckner
Strengths: Fine perimeter defender, considered a defensive stopper at the college level...Good build,
with a strong upper body, necessary to harass guards of similar size (whether point guards or shooting guards) to off nights..Even
with his build, his legs seem like motors which move accordingly on defense in terms of staying with his man...Rarely leaves
his man any space to take shots, putting them into uncomfortable shooting positions...Good anticipator on defense as well.
Reacts quickly to passing situations whether on or off the ball to get steals...Offensively, takes high percentage shots,
attested by the fact that he shot over 50% his four season with Arkansas which is phenomenal for a guard...Varied offensive
game, can take it to the rack and score with his upper body strength, can spot-up for mid-range jumpshots, etc...Good three
point shooter. Has really developed this aspect of his game from his junior year and now he is a legitimate threat from long
distance, at 44%...Excellent at putting himself in a good spot-up scoring position...Possesses a good general knowledge of
the game offensively and defensively, knows his role on the court...Rarely turns the ball over, although he does not handle
it much...Has improved over the past couple of seasons...
Weaknesses: Basically a small forward in a point guard's body, somewhat of a "tweener" with his height...Lacks
playmaking skills whatsoever, with little court awareness beyond general passing (0.9 assists per game)...A lot of his game
is largely untested because his primary point guard, Morgan Jives, was really ball-dominant offensively...Rarely handles the
ball and when he does, it is clear his ballhandling skills need work as he rarely looks fluid dribbling in traffic or shooting
off the dribble...Only a spot-up shooter offensively...Game is that of a role player's, needs to have others create for him
offensively...Rarely gets to the line...Average athleticism and fluidity. Does not do anything flashy on both ends of the
court, but he has enough to handle the NBA in that regard...Height can be a huge detriment to him especially on defense, as
he has been torched by taller and more offensively talented guards before...
Critique: His lack of height combined with his average athleticism are really the biggest knocks
on him in terms of making it to the NBA.
