NBA Comparison: Mike James
Strengths: A hard worker who gradually improved in each of his three seasons at U of M...Best NBA
attribute relates to his mental and physical toughness; a fearless player who is willing to conform to team needs/situations
and take either a passing-first role or a scoring role...Great leadership skills. Doesn't have the best physical tools but
uses his desire, grit and tenacity to get to and finish around the basket...Has the tricks-of-the-trade offensive game; can
step into a mid-range shot if defenders overplay him from three point range, and he shoots decently from both mid-range and
three-point range...Tough defender, moves with his man and does his best to stay in front of him even if it means fighting
screens and other defenders...Decent passer who understands the playbook and can pass the ball the way his coach wants it...The
consummate pro, his hard work and desire to win is unparalleled....Good size and build for the NBA point guard position...
Weaknesses: Doesn't have a single standout NBA attribute in terms of offense or defense, rather it
is his toughness that takes him over the top...Has a variety of offensive moves he can make rather consistently, but none
of them look extremely fluid or inherent; rather, he has a stroke which looks more like a fling with no follow-through...His
percentages lower a lot when he is forced to take contested shots, as he is the focal point of the offense...Exerts a lot
of energy on offense that over time, he starts missing shots (even open ones) so conditioning might be an issue...Lacks great
physical tools for the NBA. Subpar athleticism, rather uses his strength and grit to get things done to make up for vertical
and lack of a good first step...Not a great open court player, but tries his best on that end...Finds it a bit hard to get
by screens, will have trouble against much quicker PGs...Not a natural PG. A converted shooting guard who has expressed a
desire to play PG, but does not possess the natural ballhandling and passing skills that most PGs can utilize or make...Ballhandling
can afford to use some work although it has generally improved a bit...Gets assists off of general passing into the low post
or to perimeter shooters, but nothing blatantly impressive...A meat-and-potatoes guy rather than a spectacular athlete....
Notes: Signed up for University of Massachusetts after failing to get a scholarship from top colleges
including Georgia Tech, Syracuse and Alabama...Models his game after Derek Fisher.
