NBA Comparison: Jumaine Jones

Strengths: A face-up combo forward type whose game is based on an relative intensity and an up-and-down style of play...Does not mind doing the dirty work as a blue-collar player but his talent is evident...Well-built small forward with a good shooting touch. Runs the floor well and likes to spot up for threes in transition game or just take threes out of the general half-court set...High-arching shot, releases the ball in one fluid motion...Has a good first step and can stumble towards the basket to get the easy layup or dunk at times...Very athletic player. Doesn't utilize his athleticism much on offense, but it really helps him in the dirty work department, where he can use his hops and speed against the bigs to snatch up rebounds. Even though his competition isn't spectacular, still managed to pull an astounding 9.2 rebounds per game, which is based on his nose for the ball, tenacity, his heart and his grit...Clears up the boards on both offense and defense, knowing the importance of possessions...Tenacious defender. Willing to draw charges and has good feet to stay with his man, not risking his defensive position excessively...Decent rotation defender as well, plays team defense just as well as one-on-one...Hasn't got much hype and the cards haven't fell for him the way they should, but he does a lot of his damage behind the scenes and really is an "underrated" player in the process...Not extremely foul prone despite the fact that he seems to be all over the place on the defensive side of the court...

Weaknesses: Has a lot of talent, and although he's clearly the number one option for his team, he seems to put more stake at being a glue-hustle type guy rather than a player who wants to take a lot of shots...He had many opportunities to take a lot more shots, but at the end he only averaged 14 points a game when he could clearly have had more...His offensive decision-making is a bit subpar. Chooses to take the three point shot way too often, constitutes about 2/3rds of his shots...Three point shot can clearly be streaky, he is no super shooter although he will have his share of hot/cold nights...A bit of a streaky shooter overall. Because he relies so heavily on his jumpshot on offense, he is not always consistent...Rarely looks to attack the basket even though he has the clear-cut ability to do so. Took more threes than free throw attempts, and does not even shoot well from the stripe either (63%) despite his shooting ability...Not a flexible, super-athletic player who can contort his body and finish intricate moves, breaking down defenders, etc., but he has more than enough athleticism to hold his ground (he just barely uses it)...Not exactly a leader, and this may be what makes him a role player. His team has never had a winning record during his four years, and he deserves a bit of the blame for being a bit of a humble player...An up-and-down player due to his intensity, but in up-and-down he spots up for jumpshots after running the court, rarely attacking the basket...Not a true PF, although teams may use him there for his hustle and rebounding....Competition may arouse some criticism....

Notes: Another NBA Comparison? James Jones...Favorite song is Nick Lachey "What's Left of Me"...Has been well-traveled living with his musician father and actress mother...A very avid storyteller who has been in many charity and children-help programs throughout his college years...
