NBA Comparison: Etan Thomas

Strengths: Big, burly and grizzled power forward who puts the "power" to the forward...Strong as an ox...Tenacious player whose intensity in grabbing rebounds, blocking shots and scoring garbage buckets is infectious...Gives his team an intimidating, scary edge...Actually looks fairly mobile considering his weight, can run the floor and finish with very powerful dunks...Offensively possesses some nimble footwork, and although the post game results aren't there, if he inches closer to the bucket he will dunk relentlessly...Very good rebounder. Clears the boards well using some of his athleticism and strength, jumps well for them...Very good at chasing after offensive boards...Both a good weakside and post defender, although better at the post defense. Rarely moved off the post with his bulk and always puts opposing post players at bad scoring positions...Intensity allows him to wreak some havoc on defense, where he can block shots from the weakside decently...Hard working player who earned his spot on Florida's rotation early in the season...Affects the game even when he's not scoring...

Weaknesses: Size will certainly be critical to his success, he was really 6'8" at his senior year of high school and that extra inch might be a bit generous...Skillwise, certainly not up to par. Lacks fundamentals, sometimes lets his eagerness get the better of him; offensively, he could get a charge, and defensively, he could pick up fouls....Doesn't have any reliable moves outside the paint. Poor jumpshooter with woeful mechanics and slow release...In the paint, although he has good footwork, he does not sustain that well and in the NBA, against bigger and more athletic bigs, he might not be able to get his shot off...Lacks ballhandling skills, so if he gets the ball in the perimeter he cannot shoot or attack the basket...Sometimes relies too much on his excess of energy and athleticism to get things done...Can get into foul trouble fairly easily...Foul shooting needs a lot of work (52%)...Had some injury problems in his junior year of high school (foot) but that seems to be gone...

Notes: Earned his spot in Florida's rotation after exploding for 26 pts (on 10-13 shooting) off the bench to go with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks against Syracuse. Top 100 recruit.
